The Love of His Son
It is always interesting how each week plays out in a certain way so that what I read allows me to grow and learn more. I won't go in to the details of what happened this week but it is so comforting to know I have the scriptures and more specifically the Savior to help and guide me through each week, day, hour and minute of my life.
I think it is so interesting that one of the last lessons that the Savior teaches us before his death is about loving thy neighbor and God and taking care of your friends. He asks us to call upon the Father in his name so he can serve us. These are so important to our growth, progression and our understanding of Heavenly father and His son.
John 14:10-14
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
These scriptures seemed to stick out for the fact that Christ knows the will of the father and we don't; If praying to him, asking him for the things we need through his name it is an act of faith then it is also a way for us to grow closer to him. To have a deep meaning full relationship with him. He gives us a way to access the atonement he is about to preform by saying though prayer, if you ask God in my name (because he is our advocate) He will do it. Now I don't think this is a wish granting opportunity it's a chance for us to learn how to ask, how to grow closer with God and to access what Christ has given us.
Even Christ asked the father to remove the pain of it all and he had to ask. I think sometimes we know that what we are asking cannot be avoided. Christ, I believe, deep down knew that he couldn't avoid his fate of the atonement but because we have a father who loves us, truly loves us, it can bring us comfort from simply asking about it. Our acceptance of what we must go through is truly a process and a progression to becoming humble like the savior.
In verses 15 and 16 of the same chapter, also go along with the principle above.
15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
If we love God keeping his commandments will be easy. Christ knowing us entirely wants to serve and give us all that he can. If we love God we will be blessed with the comforter. This is such a powerful blessing! To have the spirit to be with us. All it takes is to love God first.
Imagine if we were able to shift our view to Glorify the Creator, our Father, what great good we would be able to accomplish. Sometimes all we can do is shift our own view, I have learned a lot about that this week. We can't choose for others even if we wanted to. We have to choose to love God and to keep what he has asked of us.
In these chapters are the declarations of Christ's love for us, right before the act of the atonement. This is so important to know. That we are loved, that love allows us to live on this earth, to have this experience with a body, to become queens and kings and to become what our Father in heaven has become. It is so important for the fact that we can love like they do, have joy like their joy. They key to life is Happiness, it's loving with out conditions.
Now that may seem a little contradicting but even if we didn't keep the commandments God would still love us.
Someone mentioned this week in our discussions that when Christ talk's about how he could have legions of angels protect him at any time but he doesn't call upon them. He was showing us, teaching us that the plan is far greater than we can imagine. He is such an example of choosing the right. In this situation he chooses the pain and the difficult and the uncomfortable over the easy. He has taught me that there are "easier" ways or ways that seem to be better but there is a path we half to follow even though we may know that this is hard.
Keeping the commandments are not not going to be hard. It may even suck sometimes, but if we learn that keeping them is a way to show our love and appreciation to them.
And this, being only the tip of the iceberg of what the Lord wanted to tell us before he died, is so important to remember and has helped me so much to ponder on these words this week. It has given me strength when i didn't think it would.
